[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2005-07-28 Summary: Very Impressive robot ever!!! ... This book is truly amazing for robot hobbyist like me. I built a different robot using Karl Williams instructions even though it for the robot in his book. I built the robot too and it's real easy to build. I built the main controller board using a solderless breadboard and made the infared sensor board using the radioshacks PCB kits, it was a little different though. For the programs I had to tweak them because i couldn't afford the Picbasic pro, so with my little imagination I got some of the programs to work. This ...more

It covers many aspects of robot design around a complete sample robot project. The topics it partially covers are shortly; PCB making, PIC circuit design and PIC programming, legged robots walking gaits, robotic sensors. ...more

Introduction to Robotics: Mechanics and Control (3rd Edition)
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-07-03 Summary: Robotics Instructor - Oklahoma ... I teach a introductory course in robotics that is targeted for the senior/graduate level student in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering /Computer Science. The goal is to understand the kinematics, dynamics and ultimately the control of robotic manipulators. Unequivocally, this is one of the best books in introductory robotics! This book is not for the robotic tinkerer or the amateur, but for the engineer who is desirous of obtaining a sound understanding of the principles involved. In the past four years that I have ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-03-11 Summary: Great first book ... This was my favorite because it was easy to follow and understand basic robotics. Though some of the material is outdated, it still gives you a lot of insight into basic manipulator mathematics. But set your expectations right-you should not expect this book to teach you basic mathematics of rotational matrices. ...more
Editorial Reviews — ... Product Description | Now in its third edition, Introduction to Robotics by John J. Craig provides readers with real-world practicality with underlying theory presented. With one half of the material from traditional mechanical engineering material, one fourth control theoretical material, and one fourth computer science, the book covers rigid-body transformations, forward and inverse positional kinematics, velocities and Jacobians of linkages, dynamics, linear control, non-linear control, force control methodologies,...more

Professional Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-05 Summary: If you want deep knowledge, this is the book. ... This is not an intro book, but is the book you want if you want in depth knowledge. Very good book, but you'll likely use it as a reference rather than a tutorial as the topics are pretty targeted. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-10-26 Summary: Thorough but not easy material to get through ... I have not yet completed reading this book though I have read the first few chapters. My first impression is that although this book is fairly thorough and comprehensive, it's not the easiest material to get through. The authors start with the CCR (Concurrency and Coordination Run-Time) and discuss it in such a way that it has nothing to do with robotics. Obviously, it makes sense as to why you would have a specialized set of components to handle concurrency, etc., but it helps to know how it fits in the big picture ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-07-08 Summary: Best book for the job ... Of the two textbooks available, Professional MRDS is an excellent reference book for those who need guidance with MRDS. The textbook has a plethora of examples that are easy to grasp and has an excellent code library (available from the website at no cost). In addition, the hands-on attitude of the authors make MRDS a pleasurable experience. ...more
Editorial Reviews — ... Product Description | Wrox's Professional Microsoft RoboticsĀ Developer Studio is one of the first guides to Microsoft's new platform for visualizing and programming robotics applications. Written by the founding architect of the product, Professional Microsoft Robotics Studio is heavy on examples making this a hands-on guide that will get readers building robotics applications quickly using 3 case-study robots: an indoor security robot, winning Magellan competitor and a chess-playing robotic arm. Topics include:...more

Probabilistic Robotics (Intelligent Robotics and Autonomous Agents)
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-08-28 Summary: Delivers even more than it promises ... This is really an amazing book - it more than fulfilled my expectations. It starts from the very basics of probability theory and clearly derives Kalman Filtering, Particle Filtering, Probabilistic Motion and Probabilistic Perception in the first 6 chapters. From there it moves on to talk about Localization and Mapping completely separately (which I appreciated, since the two topics are far easier to comprehend independently) in chapters 7 and 8 and then finally introduces SLAM (the main topic of the book) in chapter ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-09-16 Summary: Useful book ... i think this book is very helpful for beginner of probabilistic robotics. it has a lot of example and pictures :) for our understanding. easy to learning. If i met the chance to buy another book about probabilistic robotics, i am sure purchase this book. have a nice day~~ ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2006-09-08 Summary: Robot Navigation ... Uncertainty is an important issue facing intelligent systems. Thrun, Burgard, and Fox have made important contributions to this area of research. Probabilistic Robotics is a more narrowly focused text than the title might suggest. At 650 pages perhaps it could not be broader and yet do justice to the topics the authors want to cover. Perhaps the title should have been Probabilistic Robot Navigation. My other criticism would be the lack of executables ...more
Editorial Reviews — ... Product Description | Probabilistic robotics is a new and growing area in robotics, concerned with perception and control in the face of uncertainty. Building on the field of mathematical statistics, probabilistic robotics endows robots with a new level of robustness in real-world situations. This book introduces the reader to a wealth of techniques and algorithms in the field. All algorithms are based on a single overarching mathematical foundation. Each chapter provides example implementations in pseudo code,...more
