I am surprised to read so many bad reviews about this modem on here. I have purchased and used at least 6 of them over the years and have not had a problem or issue with any one of them. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a modem but with high speed internet who uses modems anyways?? In less than 5 minutes, I was connected @49.2K, which is very good in my neighborhood where the phone lines are 1950's vintage. I have several of these USRobotics external modems on both Windows and Linux machines and have never had a bit of trouble with them. I'll try it one a Windows XP machine next. ...more

It is not a cheap winmodem. Here in Albuquerque,NM the phone lines are beginning to deteriorate. This is the only modem that connects at the maximum line level of 49.2 Kbaud.
